The five basic strokes include effleurage (light touch), petrissage (kneading), tapotement (rhythmic tapping), friction (compression), and vibration. Swedish massage has shown to be helpful in reducing pain, joint stiffness, and improving function in patients with osteoarthritis of the knee with a series of treatments over a couple of months. Swedish Massage has been shown to reduce stress on physical and emotional states, offer pain relief, it’s stimulating for the skin and for the nervous system, increases oxygen flow in the blood, increases circulation without heart overload and flushes toxins and other metabolic wastes from the muscles. |
